If it's your first time riding a SNO-GO, begin your day at the Easy Rider Lift. The beginner area offers gentle groomed terrain where you can practice turning, stopping, and loading the chairlift before heading higher up the mountain.
Once you're comfortable, ride the Flat Top Flyer to access Powderhorn's longer beginner and intermediate terrain. A great progression is to start on Boardwalk, then continue onto Lower Dude, E-Z, and Bottom's Up. These wide groomed runs are ideal for building confidence and making smooth carved turns on your Powderhorn ski bike rental.

Wear the right gear. SNO-GOs require snowboard boots—ski boots are not compatible. Dress in waterproof winter clothing with insulated gloves, goggles, and a properly fitted helmet.

Give yourself extra space on the chairlift. Most resorts count your SNO-GO as a person, so don't load a full chair. On a 4-person chair, ride with no more than two other people, especially while you're learning.

Keep your weight over the front ski. The biggest beginner mistake is leaning back. Instead, keep your chest over the handlebars and apply plenty of pressure to the front ski for better steering and control.

How long does it take to learn a SNO-GO?
Most first-time riders are making controlled turns and stopping confidently within 30 to 60 minutes. Powderhorn's beginner-friendly terrain and uncrowded slopes make it easy to learn at your own pace before progressing to longer green and blue runs.
Do I need skiing or snowboarding experience?
No. Previous skiing or snowboarding experience is not required. Most riders adapt quickly because a SNO-GO feels more like riding a bicycle than skiing. If you can comfortably ride a bike, you'll likely feel confident on a SNO-GO after just a few runs.
What boots do I need?
Snowboard boots are required for every Powderhorn ski bike rental. They provide the support and flexibility needed to ride a SNO-GO safely. Ski boots are not compatible because they cannot be used on the foot platforms.
Is a SNO-GO easier than skiing or snowboarding?
Many riders think so. A SNO-GO rides on three skis, providing excellent stability and making it less likely to catch an edge than traditional skis or a snowboard. Many beginners find the learning curve faster and more intuitive than traditional snow sports.
Where should beginners ride at Powderhorn?
We recommend starting on the beginner terrain served by the Easy Rider Lift before progressing to the longer green runs off the Flat Top Flyer. Tips for Bringing Your
Own SNO-GO to Powderhorn

Drop off your SNO-GO before parking. Parking at Powderhorn Mountain Resort is convenient, but we still recommend unloading your SNO-GO at the passenger drop-off area near the base before parking. It saves you from carrying your bike through the parking lot and gets you on the snow faster.

Bring a bike lock. Lock your SNO-GO at the ski racks while you're taking a break or stopping for lunch.

Riding multiple days? Lock your ski bike up overnight. Leave your SNO-GO locked at the resort so you don't have to transport it back and forth each day.

If you choose to lock it up overnight, make sure it's secured to a ski rack on the pavement. Do not lock it to ski racks that are on the snow, as it can interfere with resort operations.

Check every bolt before riding. Pay special attention to the control arm bolts and center axle bolt. Loose bolts can eventually fail. We recommend using blue Loctite on all bolts to help prevent them from backing out.

Carry a compact tool kit. A small mountain bike multi-tool, stubby wrenches, Allen keys, and spare control arm bolts, pins, and hardware can save your day if something loosens on the mountain.
