Golden Peak (Best Place to Start)
We highly recommend starting at Golden Peak if this is your first time riding a SNO-GO. This is the best place in Vail to learn, thanks to the beginner-friendly bunny hill area that gives you plenty of space to practice turning, stopping, and getting comfortable before heading onto bigger terrain. The best part is you do not need a lift ticket to use the bunny hill, making it the perfect place to get the hang of riding first.
Getting there is easy — from Gondola One, it’s just a short walk. Simply follow the pedestrian path over toward Golden Peak base area. If you’re staying farther away, there are also free buses running regularly from both Vail Village (Gondola One) and Lionshead Village that can take you directly to Golden Peak. Once you feel comfortable, you can head up the mountain and start exploring the rest of Vail.
Vail Village – Mountain Plaza
Start at Mountain Plaza in Vail Village, where you can catch Gondola One. This gondola allows SNO-GO bikes inside, but it requires you to lift the bike inside. Don’t hesitate to ask a lift attendant for help if needed, they’re there to make sure you get to the top safely! From Gondola One, head to Mid-Vail and take the Eagle Bahn Gondola to enjoy beginner runs like Practice Parkway and Cub’s Way, where you can ease into SNO-GO riding with smooth and gentle slopes.
Lionshead – Vail Square
If you’re entering from Lionshead, the Eagle Bahn Gondola is your best lift to start with. As with Gondola One, you can bring your SNO-GO bike inside, so simply lift the bike inside and enjoy a scenic ride up. The lift attendants here are also available to help if you need a hand. After exiting the Eagle Bahn Gondola, head over to the Born Free Express Lift to access easy terrain like the Born Free run, which offers a longer, comfortable descent that’s perfect for building confidence and control on your SNO-GO.
All gondolas in Vail can accommodate SNO-GO bikes, but you’ll need to lift the bike inside yourself. If you’re having any difficulty, just ask the lift attendants—they’re happy to assist!

Tips for Bringing Your
Own SNO-GO to Vail Mountain
Drop off your SNO-GO before parking. All of the main parking in Vail requires a walk or shuttle to the mountain. Save yourself the hassle by dropping your SNO-GO off first. Golden Peak is the easiest drop-off location. If you're skiing from Gondola One or Lionshead, use the designated passenger drop-off zones. Do not leave your vehicle unattended—drop off the bike, then return to park.
Bring a bike lock. Lock your SNO-GO to the ski racks while you're inside the lodge or taking a break.
Riding multiple days? Lock your SNO-GO up overnight. Leave your ski bike securely locked at Vail Resort so you don't have to transport it back and forth each day.
Always lock it to a ski rack on pavement. Never lock your SNO-GO in the snow. It interferes with resort operations and can create issues with mountain staff. Always use a ski rack located on pavement.
Check every bolt before riding. Pay close attention to the control arm bolts and center axle bolt. Loose bolts can eventually fail. We recommend using blue Loctite on all bolts to help prevent them from backing out.
Carry a compact tool kit. A small mountain bike multi-tool, Allen keys, stubby wrenches, and spare control arm bolts, pins, and hardware can save your day. A small frame bag or handlebar bag is a great way to keep everything with your SNO-GO.
